strange flava peanuts

this appetizer compliments asian foods, but also stands alone. (just like the proverbial cheese!) adjust and experiment with your own flavas.

1 lb whole peanuts (still in shell)
4-5 star anise starbursts
1 T whole black peppercorns
1 t mace
1 indian bayleaf
1 T salt (optional)

bring large pot of water to boil. add in all spices. upon rolling boil, add peanuts. boil for 45 minutes. remove one or two nuts from their shell to test for doneness (they should be al dente but not soggy). you may need to boil another 15 minutes. drain and serve in the shell, or remove from shell and toss with salt. perfect for the ADD kid in need of an activity.
